Florence is home to a retirement community that
consists of about 1/3 of our 7,000+ population. Florence
seniors tend to be active and participate in a variety of
community organizations from the arts to volunteer work to nature study groups
and travel clubs to take advantage of
cheap flights and group
tour opportunities.
The Outward Ventures program, for instance, is a community college program that provides transportation to cultural events in Eugene and outdoor activities up and down the coast.
Young families will also be pleased with the exceptional schools, library,
skate park and 11 local parks. This active and supportive community provides pre-school library time, Power Hour tutoring program, high school career tracking and more. Siuslaw High School has also produced state championships in track and field, and the #1 football team in 2006. Extra-curricular activities with the Boys and Girls Club are offered after school and daily throughout the summer.
Speaking of summer, it is incomparable in this outdoor playground.
The dunes provide separate trail access for ATV and horseback riding, with the Siuslaw Forest home to a number of campgrounds. Surrounded by water, you can almost choose your catch of the day from river and ocean salmon fishing to surf or lake fishing, crabbing, clamming, and even fresh oysters from Winchester Bay. The more adventurous can enjoy sailing, boating, scuba diving, kayaking, and surfing; or just stroll along the beach, fly a kite, peer into tide pools, or let the crashing waves wash away the stresses of the day.
And if that's not enough, Florence is also home to Three Rivers Casino and the 500 seat Florence Event Center. Enjoy locally produced community theatre, presentations from Eugene dance and musical troupes, and even performances from such notables as Helen Reddy. Eugene, North Bend and Lincoln City also provide headliner entertainment, guaranteeing there is no time for boredom in Florence.
Living in this paradise is truly like being on vacation every day of the week. | |
